The issue of changing Chinese ethnic identity in Post-New Order is one of the most important to see how ethnic boundaries change and how to build relationships with other ethnicities. In this paper, the author discusses how the efforts of the Cirebon Chinese ethnic community to reconstruct its cultural identity to reaffirm their ethnic boundaries. The process of reconstructing ethnic Chinese cultural identity shaped from the practice of Ong Tien's grave pilgrimage. The collective memory of the New Order's social experiences of discrimination encouraged Cirebon Chinese citizens to reorganize their relations with local residents. In this study, Ong Tien's image shaped as a cultural symbol and a historical symbol to build more harmonious relations with other ethnicities. Referring to the previous study that discussed the implications of the New Order policy, this research is another aspect of how Cirebon Chinese people reaffirm their position in the social space. Through qualitative methods, this study found that the pilgrimage practice of Ong Tien's grave had changed from before and after the New Order. In order to maintain the boundaries of Chinese ethnic identity, change actors among the Cirebon Chinese ethnic group have maintained their identity by institutionalizing the practice of the Ong Tien tomb pilgrimage as an annual cultural celebration. The strategy intended to convey Ong Tien's messages of symbolic meaning to the wider community."
