"This book is about the sources of English words, about their etymology and
history, about their sound-structure, and about some formal properties of English
word-formation rules. It is important to realize, however, that it is not about all
possible origins, it is not about all the ways in which English has introduced new
words into the language, but rather it is primarily about a particular subset, that
portion of the vocabulary which is borrowed from the classical languages (Latin
and Greek) either directly, or indirectly through French."

"This new edition is concerned primarily with the learned vocabulary of English, the words borrowed from the classical languages. It surveys the historical events that define the layers of vocabulary in English, introduces some of the basic principles of linguistic analysis, and is a helpful manual for vocabulary discernment and enrichment. An online workbook contains readings, exercises, and root lists accompanying each chapter to strengthen knowledge acquired in the classroom. New to this edition:
- Updated with a discussion of the most recent trends of blending and
shortening associated with texting and other forms of electronic
communication.
- Includes a new classification of the types of allomorphy.
- Discusses important topics such as segment sonority and the historical
shifting of long vowels in English.
- Includes a new section on Grimm’s Law, explaining some of the more
obscure links between Germanic and classical cognates.

Data kata majemuk kemudian dikategorikan berdasarkan komponen pembentuknya menurut Poedjosoedarmo (1984).

This study describes the process of forming compound words in Javanese. This study aims to analyze compound words based on their constituent components. Compound words are independent words that consist of two or more elements that have different forms. Therefore, there are phrases and compound words that are difficult to distinguish. The data source used in this study is the novel Pinatri Ing Teleng Ati by Tiwiek SA (2015). This study used the descriptive qualitative method. Compound words are classified into seven groups (Sudaryanto, 1991). This research focuses on presenting a new meaning that is mixed with the meaning of the basic form. Data in the form of compound words that have mixed meanings in the basic form are found more commonly in the novel than in other compound words. Compound word data is then categorized based on its constituent components according to Poedjosoedarmo (1984). After dividing into word subclasses, compound words are analyzed based on the relationship between the components forming compound words with phrases and clauses. Furthermore, compound words are analyzed for differences in the word class order of the forming components and their lexical meanings with phrases and clauses according to Wedhawati (2006). The findings from this study are that compound words have new meanings, and these new meanings still show a connection with the meanings of their constituent components. Unlike the case with phrases and clauses, their formation results are based on the lexical meaning of the constituent components. In addition, verb-noun patterns were found in compound words that differed from phrases and clauses. Phrases and clauses generally form noun-verb patterns. Finally, compound words with adjective-verb patterns differ from the rules of Javanese phrases and clauses. These differences make compound words have different characteristics from phrases and clauses."

"This book is the first devoted entirely to complex I. It contains chapters written by leaders in the field, covering a wide range of topics from the structure of the complex, properties of its many redox centers, subunit composition, mutagenesis studies, evolution of the enzyme and on to the current understanding of the coupling mechanism and the molecular basis for human pathologies. Features, concise and authoritative review of current state-of-the-art in research on respiratory complex I. The first book, a central enzyme in bioenergetics. Recent breakthroughs in structure elucidation finally allow understanding of the mechanism. Mutations leading to common and severe human disorders are discussed."

"The thesis explores the interface between the underlying structure of a given population and the outcome of the cooperative dynamics taking place on top of it, (namely, the Prisoner's Dilemma Game). The first part of this work analyzes the case of a static system, where the pattern of connections is fixed, so it does not evolve over time. The second part develops two models for growing topologies, where the growth and the dynamics are entangled."

"This book combines a model reduction technique with an efficient parametrization scheme for the purpose of solving a class of complex and computationally expensive simulation-based problems involving finite element models. These problems, which have a wide range of important applications in several engineering fields, include reliability analysis, structural dynamic simulation, sensitivity analysis, reliability-based design optimization, Bayesian model validation, uncertainty quantification and propagation, etc. The solution of this type of problems requires a large number of dynamic re-analyses. To cope with this difficulty, a model reduction technique known as substructure coupling for dynamic analysis is considered. While the use of reduced order models alleviates part of the computational effort, their repetitive generation during the simulation processes can be computational expensive due to the substantial computational overhead that arises at the substructure level. In this regard, an efficient finite element model parametrization scheme is considered. When the division of the structural model is guided by such a parametrization scheme, the generation of a small number of reduced order models is sufficient to run the large number of dynamic re-analyses. Thus, a drastic reduction in computational effort is achieved without compromising the accuracy of the results. The capabilities of the developed procedures are demonstrated in a number of simulation-based problems involving uncertainty."
