"Terjemahan beranotasi adalah terjemahan yang dilengkapi dengan catatan yang menyampaikan pertanggungjawaban penerjemah atas padanan yang dipilihnya. Karena tujuan utama penerjemahan mengalihkan pesan dari BSu ke BSa, penerjemah buku Nasty Bosses menerapkan prosedur, metode, dan teknik penerjemahan sebelum mulai menerjemahkan. Ketiga prosedur-analisis, pengalihanan termasuk de-verbalisasi, dan restrukturisasi teks dilakukan untuk mengatasi dua masalah-ketidakmampuan memahami arti kata, frasa, kalimat, dan paragraf dalam TSu dan kesulitan dalam penerjemahan; menandai, memberikan nomor, dan mengelompokkan ungkapan-ungkapan yang akan dianotasi. Masalah yang dihadapi penerjemah buku Nasty Bosses antara lain dalam menganalisis masalah, misalnya mengidentifikasi idiom dan/atau membedakan idiom dari ungkapan biasa, dan penerapan teknik dan metode yang sesuai untuk mendapatkan padanan yang tepat. Ini disebabkan ungkapan-ungkapan dalam buku Nasty Bosses berbentuk metaforis dan idiom yang mengakibatkan penerjemah terlebih dahulu harus menganalisa makna TSu berdasarkan konteksnya. Setelah selesai menerjemahkan, penerjemah memahami bahwa dalam menerjemahkan tidak cukup hanya berdasarkan metode, prosedur dan teknik melainkan juga memiliki wawasan yang luas.

An annotated translation is a translation completed with a note or annotation showing the translator's responsibility in choosing the equivalent words. Since the core of translation is to transfer or reproduce the source language message into the target language, the translator of Nasty Bosses, before translating, applied the procedures, methods, and techniques of translation. The three procedures-analyzing, transferring including de-verbalizing, and restructuring the text are done in order to solve the two practical problems-the incapability of comprehending meaning of words, phrases, sentences, and paragraph of the source text and the difficulty in translating such as marking, numbering, and grouping the expressions going to be annotated. The problems faced by the translator of Nasty Bosses among others are analyzing the problems, such as identifying idioms and/or distinguishing them from common expression, and applying the techniques and methods suitable and applicable to get accurate equivalence. This because the annotated expressions of Nasty Bosses are expressions such as idiom and metaphor which make the translator analyze its contextual meaning first. Having finished translating, the translator got the impression that doing the translation is not enough only by basing on the method, procedure, and technique but also by having wide horizon."

"ABSTRAKAda dua hal yang dilakukan daiam tugas akhir ini, pertama menerjemahkan, kedua memberi anotasi. Penerjemahan High-Tech Heretic: Reflection of a Computer Contrarian bertujuan untuk menyadarkan masyarakat pengguna komputer akan dampak buruk komputer. Anotasi dibuat sebagai pertanggung jawaban atas padanan yang dipilih. Ada empat unsur yang dipermasalahkan dalam penerjemahan yang menjadi topik atnotasi, yaitu istilah komputer, nama diri, ungkapan, dan idiom. Penerapan sebelas prosedur penerjemahan dapat mengatasi keempat masalah itu untuk mencapai kesepadanan denotatif, konotatif, teks normatif, pragmatik, dan bentuk. Sementara itu, saya menggunakan metode penerjemahan komunikatif dan semantis.

ABSTRAK

There are two things to be cared out in this final task namely the translation and the annotation to the translation. Translation of High-Tech Heretic: Reflection of a Computer Contrarian is aimed at informing the computer user in Indonesia of the bad impact of computer. Annotation is made as a responsibility for the translator's chosen equivalent. There are four translation problems which are explained in annotation i.e. computer term, proper name, expression, and idiom. The implementation of eleven translation procedures solve translation problems to attain five equivalences in translation i.e. denotative, connotative, text formative, pragmatic and formal equivalence. Meanwhile, I used two translation methods, communicative and semantic methods."

"Terjemahan beranotasi adalah hasil penerjemahan yang disertai anotasi atau catatan yang memberikan penalaran logis terhadap alasan penerjemah atas padanan yang dipilihnya. Selain untuk mengaplikasikan berbagai teori penerjemahan yang telah dipelajari semasa kuliah, terjemahan beranotasi merupakan sarana untuk mempertanggungjawabkan hasil terjemahan mandiri yang telah dilakukan. Penerjemahan mandiri dilakukan dengan berpedoman pada teori dasar penerjemahan yang setidaknya mencakup metode, prosedur, dan teknik. Pencarian padanan dalam proses penerjemahan dilakukan dengan membuka kamus, tesaurus, dan ensiklopedia, serta mengunjungi situs internet. Perbedaan budaya antara bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran mengakibatkan suatu kata, istilah, dan ungkapan tidak dapat diterjemahkan secara gamblang. Teknik penerjemahan, seperti: penjelasan tambahan (contextual conditioning), parafrasa, dan padanan budaya perlu diterapkan untuk mendapatkan padanan yang wajar dan berterima.

An annotated translation is a translation which is supported by annotations or notes with the purpose of delivering logical reasoning on the equivalence chosen. It does not only aim at the application of various theories formerly studied, but also at the the translator?s responsibility for the independent translation he or she has accomplished. The independent translation is carried out by referring to the basic theories of translation which consists at least of methods, procedures, and techniques.

Idiomatic and communicative translation were applied so that the target language message could be well-transferred. The search for equivalence in the translation has been done simply by looking up in dictionaries, thesaurus, and encyclopaedia, and visiting some websites on the internet. The difference between the source language and the target language culture makes a word, term, and expression, can not be explicitly translated. Thus, techniques of translation, such as: contextual conditioning, paraphrase, and cultural equivalent are deemed necessary in order to get a natural and acceptable equivalence."

Penelitian ini mengangkat teks sumber buku psikologi populer yang berjudulYou?re not who you think you are. Tesis ini memperlihatkan proses menerjemahkan teksoperatif untuk menghasilkan teks sasaran yang berfungsi sama. Selanjutnya, tesis ini jugamemberikan catatan atas padanan yang diberikan untuk masalah dalam prosesmenerjemahkan yang ditemukan berupa penerjemahan istilah psikologi, Vedanta,metafora, simile, dan idiom. Sebagai teks operatif, teks sumber diterjemahkan denganmenerapkan metode adaptif Reiss, yang artinya penerjemah berorientasi kepada bahasasasaran. Berdasarkan hasil uji coba responden, disimpulkan bahwa tujuan penerjemahantelah berhasil dicapai. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa di dalam teksoperatif juga terdapat teks ekpresif. Selanjutnya, prosedur yang paling tepat untukmemadankan istilah baru adalah prosedur calque.

ABSTRACTAnnotated translation is a study which place a translation as the study object. This studytakes source text which is a popular psychology book tittled You?re not who you think youare. This theses shows translating process of an operative source text into an operativetarget text. Furthermore, it also gives some annotations on the equivalent word given forthe translation problem found such as translation of psychology and Vedanta term,metaphors, simile, and idiom. As an operative text, source text is translated by applyingadaptive method by Reiss, it means that the translator is oriented to target language.Based on the result of the trial on respondents, it is concluded that the translation purposehas been achieved. Furthermore, this study finds an expressive text in an operative text.And finally, it shows that the best procedure to translate a new term is calque."

Perbedaan kebudayaan antara bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran mengakibatkan kata, istilah, dan ungkapan yang berhubungan dengan kebudayaan tidak dapat diterjemahkan begitu saja. Penjelasan tambahan, parafrase, atau catatan kaki perlu diberikan agar pesan dapat teralihkan dengan baik. Kata dan istilah yang berhubungan dengan keagamaan harus diterjemahkan dengan merujuk pada terjemahan resmi. Jika ada kata yang tak dapat ditelusuri asal-usul dan maknanya, penerjemahan dilakukan dengan berpegang pada konteks. Dengan demikian akan dihasilkan penerjemahan yang baik, wajar, dan tepat.

Annotated translation is a translation with annotation (notes) to convey the translator's responsibility for the equivalent words chosen. The purpose of this annotated translation is to apply various translation theories studied and to convey the translator's responsibility for the independent translation done. The independent translation was done by taking into consideration that the essence of translating is to transfer the source text?s message and by following the analysis, transfer and restructuring steps in translation. Communicative and idiomatic translation methods were used so that the message can be transferred well. Further, the independent translation was done by baking into consideration the guidelines for translating prose as well as the guidelines for translating phrases related to culture. Gathering information from various Intemet sites, dictionaries, and books was done in order to find the closest natural equivalent. Words, terms, and idioms relating to culture are not to be translated casually. Description, paraphrase or foomote need to be given so that the message can be transferred well. Religious words and terms should be translated by referring to the formal translation. Should there be any words which origin and meaning cannot be traced, then th translation is done by relying on the context. All these efforts will result in good, natural and accurate translation."

Tujuan terjemahan beranotasi adalah memberikan pertanggungjawaban atas padanan yang dipilih. Ada dua metode yang digunakan dalam tugas akhir ini, yaitu penerjemahan novel dan anotasi. Metode dan prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah yang sesuai dengan penerjemahan karya sastra. Anotasi dalam tugas akhir ini membahas sejumlah kata, (rasa, klausa, dan kalimat yang menimbulkan permasalahan dalam penerjemahan dan pemecahannya. Ditemukan permasalahan yang dominan, yaitu kata dan ungkapan India yang digunakan penulis novel berbahasa Inggris. Dari kegiatan penerjemahan novel ini dan anotasinya, dapat disimpulkan bahwa latihan menganotasi terjemahan telah meningkatkan kesadaran saya sebagai penerjemah untuk menghasilkan terjemahan yang tepat.

An annotated translation is a translation with additional annotations (notes) on reasons for the equivalents selected in the target language. The purpose of the annotations is to justify the choices which have been made by the translator. There are two methods used in this final assignment, namely the translation of the novel itself and the addition of annotations to the translation. The main translation methods and procedures employed in this final assignment are in accordance with literary translation. The annotations added to this final assignment are limited to words, phrases, clauses, and sentences that have caused a problem in their translation and the solutions of the translation problems. The dominant problem found in translating the novel is the use of Indian words and expressions in this English novel by the writer. From the translation of the novel and its annotations, it is concluded that having to give annotations on the translation problems encountered has raised my awareness as a translator of the difficulties encountered in producing an accurate translation."

Keunikan novel dari segi budaya dan keinginan untuk memperkenalkan budaya latar TSu menjadi dasar penerjemahan yang menganut ideologi pengasingan, tanpa mengabaikan ideologi pelokalan. Ideologi pelokalan hanya digunakan pada bagian-bagian tertentu untuk mencapai pemahaman pembaca TSa. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode semantis-komunikatif dengan penggunaan berbagai teknik yang mendukung kesepadanan makna dan kewajaran bentuk. Penerjemahan yang melibatkan teks sumber (TSu) yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat memerlukan upaya dari penerjemah agar tidak terjadi ?penjajahan budaya?. Keterlibatan teks sumber yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat di dalam penerjemahan ini memerlukan upaya penerjemah untuk menghindari ?penjajahan budaya?. Dalam situasi ini, penerjemah perlu mencondongkan pada lima aspek, (1) pemahaman karakteristik TSu; (2) pemahaman tentang calon pembaca TSa; (3) pemahaman budaya-budaya di dalam TSu dan budaya sasaran; (4) pemahaman makna dalam penyampaian pesan; dan (5) pemahaman bahwa ada perbedaan cara pengungkapan suatu ide pada dua budaya yang berlainan.

ABSTRACTThis thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho. Annotation is performed to explain the problem and its solution translation of the cultural terms. The uniqueness of the novel in terms of culture and the desire to introduce the cultural background of the source text become a basic of translation that adheres to the ideology of foreignization, without ignoring the localization of ideology. The localization only used on certain parts to achieve the target text reader comprehension. Translation method used is semantic-communicative methods with the use of various techniques that support the equivalence of meaning and reasonableness shape. The involvement of the source text that presents a strong culture in this translation requires some effort of the translator to avoid the ?culturally imperialistic?.In this situstion, translator needs to be leaned on five aspects of understanding, (1) understanding of the characteristics of source text; (2) understanding of the potential reader of the target text; (3) understanding of the cultures in the source text and the target text; (4) understanding of the meaning in the delivery of the message; and (5) an understanding that there are different ways of expressing an idea in two different cultures.;This thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho. Selainitu, penerjemahan telah mempertimbangkan elemen visual yang khas komik danragam bahasa takresmi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerjemahan komik yangmengandungi penyuluhan keperawatan jiwa memerlukan penanganan khususkarena tuntutan teks kreatif sekaligus informatifThis thesis is an annotated translation consisting of a translation and translatorsreasoning for choosing the equivalents of certain elements causing translationproblems. The source text of this study is a comic entitled Psychiatric Tales. Theresearcher used the entire contents of the comics as a research corpus. Translationmethods applied in this study are communicative and semantic methods. In orderto solve translation problems, this researcher applied several translationprocedures. The annotation datas are related to psychiatric nursing terms,metaphors, idioms, and onomatopoeias.
