"Listrik yang dihasilkan oleh pembangkit listrik tenaga mikrohidro harus mempunyai frekuensi yang selalu berada pada daerah kerja yang diperbolehkan walaupun terjadi perubahan beban. Mekanisme pengontrolannya yaitu menggunakan dc servomotor sebagai penggerak untuk mengatur posisi bukaan gate sehingga aliran air yang masuk dapat disesuaikan dengan beban konsumen. Sistem PLTMH sangat kompleks dan mempunyai kerakteristik non linier maka digunakan pengendali model predictive control (MPC). Dengan menggunakan MPC keluaran sistem dapat diprediksi dalam rentang waktu yang telah ditentukan sehingga respon sistem cepat. MPC juga dapat memprediksi gangguan yang terukur sehingga waktu yang diperlukan sistem dalam mengatasi perubahan beban menjadi lebih cepat. Di samping itu, MPC dapat menyuguhkan nilai lebih berupa kemampuannya dalam memberikan batasan-batasan (constraints) baik untuk sinyal kendali maupun untuk keluaran sistem. Hasil simulasi yang dilakukan dengan menggunakan program bantu MATLABSIMULINK menunjukkan, bahwa keluaran sistem dengan pengendali MPC tanpa constraint selalu dapat mengikuti trayektori acuan yang diberikan, serta mampu mengatasi gangguan dengan cepat. Perbandingan kinerja pengendalian juga dilakukan antara algoritma MPC tanpa constraint dengan PID dan formula Ackermann, dimana algoritma MPC tanpa constraint menunjukkan performa yang lebih baik.

Electricity generated by micro hydro power plant must have a frequency that is always in the working area allowed despite load changes. The controller mechanism used dc servomotor as an actuator to adjust the gate opening position, so that the incoming water flow can be adjusted with the consumer load. MHP system is very complex and has non linear characteristics, so that model predictive control (MPC) must be used. By using the MPC, system output can be predicted in the timeframe had been set so the system response will be fast. MPC can also predict the measurable disturbance, so the time needed to cope with changes in system load faster. Moreover, the MPC could deliver more value in the form of its ability in providing constraints for both control signals and system output. The simulation results taken using MATLAB-SIMULINK software show that the system output with MPC unconstraint controller always follow the reference trajectory. Comparing control performance is also taken between the MPC unconstraint algorithm, PID and Ackermann formula, in which the MPC unconstraint algorithm shows the better performance."

"Mycrohydro power (MHP) is one of the alternative energies that have been developed to meet the electricity demand, especially for rural communities. Developments of MHP can be done either with a connected system (on-grid) with PLN and not connected (off-grid) that are sold directly to the public. MHP existing operations in Indonesia, especially those off-grid has a relatively shorter time operation than on-grid system. One cause of this failure is that the non exist institutional establishment for managing MHP which has community welfare and sustainability environmental orientation. The study was conducted to respond to questions about what MHP management alternatives that can improve the welfare of the community and support the growth of micro and small business in the community, as well as preserve the surrounding natural environment, particularly the flow of rivers and water catchment areas which in turn maintain operational sustainability MHP."
