"Against the common supposition that identity always mattered, this book shows that what we now think of routinely as 'personal identity' actually only emerged with the explosion of consumption in the late-twentieth century. It also makes the case that what we now think of as different social and political 'identities' only came to be framed as such with the emergence of identity politics and new social movements in the political landscapes of capitalist societies in the 60s and 70s. Marie Moran provides an important new exploration of the articulation of the idea of identity to the social logic of capitalism, from the 'organised capitalism' of the mid-twentieth century, up to and including the neoliberal capitalism that prevails today. Drawing on the work of Raymond Williams, the cultural materialist approach developed here provides an original means of addressing the political debates about the value of identity in contemporary capitalist societies"

"This volume examines diverse meanings and practices of risk management ranging from austerity to climate change to housing and debt. The authors investigate the relationship between shifts in contemporary capitalism and the ways in which neoliberal forms of risk management have emerged, been reproduced and normalized, and, transformed historically.

Conflict that is caused by the clash of interest is one of the integral parts in human history. The Second Congo War that put nine different states in one massive war was one of the most prominent examples on how violence is still being used as a tool to achieve their interests. The signing of Sun City peace accord in 2003 gave way to the creation of democratic states in DRC with the assistance of international peacebuilding actors, one of the most important of them was MONUC. Surprisingly the creation of democratic state didn?t necessarily mean that violence would stop, especially in the province of Kivus in the eastern part of DRC.
This thesis try to seek and analyze the reason why violence is still occuring in DRC despite the existence of democratic government. Four indicators will be used to analyze the phenomena, first is the characteristic of the new government, second is the alienation of the local community in DRC, third is the strategy of the peacebuilding actors, and fourth is the relations between states in the African Great Lakes region. This thesis will also see how those four indicators affecting one another and creating an obstacle in the implementation of peacebuilding in DRC.
