"Gedung pengadilan adalah tempat untuk mengadili, mendamaikan dan mendengar kesaksian dari seseorang yang terlibat masalah kriminal dan permasalahan lainnya yang terkait dengan hukum. Pemerintah menempatkan gedunggedung pengadilan di banyak wilayah untuk menjaga agar semua berjalan dengan baik dan mengikuti aturan. Pemerintah dalam hal ini adalah pemerintah Hindia Belanda yang telah memegang kendali atas Hindia Belanda sejak kebangkrutan VOC pada tahun 1796. Gedung pengadilan di Hindia Belanda dibangun dengan gaya bangunan yang spesial karena tempat ini memiliki fungsi khusus. Gaya bangunan yang digunakan adalah Indische Empire. Tulisan ini membahas mengenai sejarah pembentukan gedung pengadilan Raad van Justitie di Batavia, gaya bangunannya serta fungsi Raad van Justitie pada masa pemerintahan Hindia Belanda hingga saat ini.

Courthouse is a place to judge, arbitrate and to hear someone’s evidence who is involved crime and any other problems related to the law. Government places the courthouses in many regions to keep everything safe and follow the rule. The government refers to Dutch East Indies government which controlled East Indies since the bankruptcy of VOC in 1796. Because of the special purpose of them, the courthouses in Dutch East Indies are built with special style of architecture. The style of it's architecture is called Indische Empire style. This paper discusses the history of the establishment of the courthouse Raad van Justitie in Batavia, the style of the architecture of it and the function of Raad van Justitie from the past to the present. This paper also presents some pictures from various sources to assist the illustration of Empire style and Indisch Empire style and the meanings of the architecture."
