Whorfian view that language influences the thought still shows the results of pros and cons. This experimental study was conducted to examine the effect of language on thought through the event perception. The first independent variables in this study were languages with variations of Indonesian and English language groups. The second independent variable, is the type of event is given in the formof a paired image representation with variations of the same event of different actors or the same actors with different event. Participants were asked to make anassessment based on the similarity of the pair of type of events. The researchers used a measuring and manipulating tool adapted from Boroditsky 2001. Instructions are given in Indonesian for Indonesian groups and English for English groups. Overall, the results of the study showed significantly higher meanvalues on different tense same actors DTSA images in English groups than Indonesian groups. The average value of the same tense different actor STDA English group was not significantly lower in the Indonesian language group. In this research there is no significant interaction effect between language groups with event perception."

"This book provides a working model or 'map' of the mind, with language as its centrepiece. Drawing on research across linguistics, psychology and neuroscience, it allows the reader to quickly grasp how each separate aspect of the mind's operations can be related. This 'big picture' view includes the way the mind makes, stores and loses memories of all kinds as well how its various 'expert systems' combine and collaborate to solve, typically beyond our conscious awareness, the myriad of tasks we are faced with every minute and millisecond of our existence. The book also focuses on language, that is, the mind of monolingual, bilingual and multilingual speakers.

"Written for students encountering the topic for the first time, this is a clear and practical introduction to second language acquisition (SLA). Using non-technical language it explains how a second language is acquired; what the learner of a second language needs to know; and why some learners are more successful than others. This new edition of Muriel Saville-Troike's bestselling textbook introduces in a step-by-step fashion a range of fundamental concepts, such as SLA in adults and children, in formal and informal learning contexts, and in diverse sociocultural settings. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, it encourages students to consider SLA from linguistic, psychological, and social perspectives. Providing a solid foundation in SLA, this book has become the leading introduction to the field for students of linguistics, psychology, education, and trainee language teachers"-- Provided by publisher.

"Most societies in today’sworld are multilingual. ‘Language contact’ occurs when speakers of different languages interact and their languages influence each other. This book is an introduction to the subject, covering individual and societal multilingualism, the acquisition of two or more languages from birth, second-language acquisition in adulthood, language change, linguistic typology, language processing, and the structure of the language faculty. It explains the effects of multilingualism on society and language policy, as well as the consequences that long-term bilingualism within communities can have for the structure of languages. Drawing on the author’s own first-hand observations of child and adult bilingualism, the book provides a clear analysis of such phenomena as language convergence, grammatical borrowing, and mixed languages."
