User education's primary purpose is to encourage the user of the library as part of the educational process. This dissertation discusses the user education programs in Indonesian universities and also explaining the background of the Indonesian university library and its educational system.
Two case studies of user education carried out at the Bogor Agricultural University, serve as a base for designing user education programs in Indonesian universities. The programs also draw from Western countries' experiences and these are adapted to the Indonesian context. Some proposals are put forward in terms of user education programs for Indonesian universities including three levels of programs and their specifications. Ways of evaluation according to Indonesian needs and conditions are also offered.
