Influence of Fire Drills as Part of Fire Safety Management to Safety Performance of Shop Buildings in JakartaFire occurs unexpectedly and must be aware by people because fire is a complex problem. This complexity seems increasing as the technology construction development-increasing fire load, variety of construction material, completion of installation and equipment, and also bigger and higher buildings. The impact of high cost of building constructions tends to make owners minimize some cost especially cost of building safety. Because of that, the meaning and the effort to prevent fire damage must be improved continuously.
In accordance with KEPMEN PU 02/KPTS/1985, and Perda DKI No.3 1992 about Fire Safety Management, every building having capacity more than 50 occupants and public place having more than 30 people must have and conduct fire safety management system. Generally, function and task of Fire Safety Management are the same, to conduct inspection and maintenance, coordinate fire safety team, provide training and safety of fire damage, and conduct Fire Drills. Fire Drills could show preparedness quality oftearn entirely and people rescue related to fire occurs. In Jakarta, there are some shopping buildings conduct fire drills at least once a year and are observed directly by Fire Department.
In this research, we find that there is positive correlation between Fire Drills and Safety Performance of Shop Buildings. The correlation between Fire Drills and Safety Performance is linear with adjusted R2 = 0.849. This resume has two dominant variables influencing the model, as follows:
