Skripisi ini menganalisis peristiwa Balibo dalam pers Australia dan dampaknya terhadap kebijakan pemerintah Australia terhadap permasalahan di Timor Timur tahun 1975-1976. Surat kabar yang digunakan dalam menganalisis adalah The Canberra Times, The Sydney Morning Herald, dan The Age. Ketiga surat kabar ini memberitakan peristiwa Balibo dari sudut pandang yang berbeda. Peristiwa Balibo yang muncul dalam surat kabar-surat kabar di Australia, meningkatkan respons masyarakat Australia terhadap kondisi konflik di Timor Portugis pasca dikeluarkannya keputusan dekolonialisasi dari Portugal. Perhatian juga tertuju pada kebijakan yang diambil oleh pemerintah Indonesia dalam menghadapi konfik di Timor Portugis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketiga surat kabar mampu memberikan kritikan terhadap kebijakan pemerintah Australia selama proses penyelidikan kematian lima wartawan anggota Australian Journalist Association (AJA) di Balibo.
This thesis analyzes about the Balibo Affair in the Australian press and its impact on the Australian government's policy towards the problems in Timor Portuguese in 1975-1976. Newspapers were used in the analysis are The Canberra Times , The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. All three newspapers have preached the Balibo from a different angle. With the advent of Balibo in the newspaper - a newspaper in Australia, increasing the Australian community response to the conditions of conflict in Timor Portuguese after the issuance of the decision decolonization from Portugal. Attention is also focused on the measures taken by the Indonesian government in the face of conflict in Timor. The results of research showed that all three newspapers were able to give criticism of the policy of the Australian government during the process of investigation into the death of five journalists AJA in Balibo.
